Posted by Ray Shearer on Feb 18, 2010 at 11:15 AM Unfortunately, this is becoming the best way to see larger snakes anymore! I just read an article that stated that large snake populations decline by 50 to 75% when there is a road nearby. A personal friend of mine in Arizona doesn't even bother looking for snakes less than a mile from a higway because of road mortality and overcollecting! Hopefully some survive in your area. I moved four ratsnakes off the road last summer and two of them ended up getting hit later in the year - both hit at the exact same place on the road from where I moved them heading the opposite direction!
