Notes
Short 50 yard stretch below where I started surveying last time at my new site. Happy and sad at same time - water company pumping water for Marcellus drilling less than 30 feet away from where I saw the first snake basking and decapitated garter snake laying in creek. I believe they were going to be done getting water yesterday. Hope the waters and queens kept a low profile!!! Some interesting stats from talking to the driver: his truck held 4,620 gallons of water. He was hauling water to two wells. Each well required 100 truckloads to frack! Only 1/3 of that water will be recovered and "cleaned", some will be recycled for other wells, a good bit will stay in the ground as a chemical time bomb. I know it is providing jobs - but a very scary industry! I know some of you are thinking "What does this have to do with herping?" Well, wait until they put a well pad on one of your timber dens or gestating sites.
