Just wondering... Has this happened to anyone else? I'm wondering how common it is to be fishing and actually catch a Northern Water Snake on the hook. This has happened to my husband several times, including 2x this afternoon. He was casting a 1-inch minnow swim bait for perch and he actually hooked and caught 2 different snakes. He safely removed both and set them free. I just can't believe that these snakes are so aggressive that they're going after fishing lures. LOL

I have seen videos of northern watersnakes being hand fed minnows by people fishing so in no way am i shocked that they would grab a lure. I have personally seen them fly off a log and chase small panfish that i had caught and released behind my parents house.

Funny thing is, this is all happening in our community swimming lake... you should hear the little kids scream when a snake swims by... LOL

I have caught a Cottonmouth in SC while fishing. Not something you really want to catch while fishing.

I once lured a watersnake out from under a rock with a minnow on a hook. If it moves and looks like food they'll eat it
