Anyone familiar with google earth. If so how do I get it to show terrain feature like google map does. I can see the elevation by the little indicator at the bottom but it hard to see the way the land runs without the terrain (topo) feature. Thanks for any info.

AdminI do not think it has topo but does have a 3d terrain view.
TerrainThe terrain layer shows 3D elevation of your current view. Elevation is limited to natural geographic features, like mountains and canyons, and does not apply to buildings. Turn this feature on to get an even clearer image of your favorite ski resort or canyon trail. You can turn terrain on by selecting on the Terrain item in the Layers panel.
You can also adjust the appearance of the terrain if you would like the elevation to appear more pronounced in your views. To do this, do the following:
Windows and Linux: Tools > Options > 3D View. Modify the Elevation Exaggeration value.
Mac: Google Earth > Preferences > 3D View. Modify the Elevation Exaggeration value.
The default value is set to 1, but you can set it to any value from 1 to 3, including decimal points. A common setting is 1.5, which achieves an obvious yet natural elevation appearance.
Tip: Because terrain data is additional information, more time is needed to download this information to Google Earth. If you are not interested in viewing terrain data, turn this layer off for faster streaming from the server to the viewer.Posted 2 years ago # -

MemberI did what you said, it may be a little better. I dont understand why google maps has the "Terrain" option in topo and google earth dont. Not a big deal, I still can see my elevation where i want to go at the bottom, its just nice to see how steep the ridges are, If needed I can just go to google map. Thanks

MemberI use it to get a head start when im looking for new locations and certain features. I also use it to document my findings through out the state and mark more potential places.
