I went out last weekend to an area that is outside my usual route to practice with the camera and immediately got my hopes up that it would be a good day when I spotted a box turtle (3-4 inch) 3/4 across the road in the opposite lane. Unfortunately the turtle met its demise in the 60 seconds it took me to do a U-turn down the road. Ugh... It's demise disgusted me to the point I abandonded my plans for the day.
Today I decided to give it another go (figuring I would be rewarded with less toursits then the holiday weekend) and took my sister along for the ride. We were rewarded with this sighting on the way home. A lifer for the both of us however she's not so excited about this as I. ;-)

It finally decided to return into the weeds shortly before we left it.
