Cold in the mountains this weekend, but stuff could still be found. My wife's desire is to spend the weekend at our
kottage, but she's cool enough to let me go out for a few hours. I even took her with me for a few hours on Mother's Day.
Searching up some spots I haven't been too in a while...

Some Salamanders...
Mountain Dusky

Northern Slimy- would not sit still.

Northern Two-lined, more vivid than the pic gives credit.

And this behemoth... under a rock that was quite a few feet from water, where I am used to seeing them.
Northern Spring Salamander

Can you say canthus rostralis?

Some snakes...
Eastern Garter Snake

Getting away...

Northern Redbellied Snakes

Northern Brown Snake- a beefy one.

Ever see a ringneck snake and say "If only they were 3 feet long."?
Well, this one was only 18 inches, but it's girth rivaled those of adult garter snakes in the area. The biggest
Northern Ringneck I personally have ever come across. But, failed to get perspective shots.

Compare the size to my thumbnail. A "normal" sized one that I usually find is about 1/3 the girth.

I found several today... even wee little ones.

Eastern Smooth Green Snake- My person favorites from the area. Though this one was not photogenic at all.

Lastly, I usually find these undercover, so it was a surprise to find this Eastern Milk Snake basking on the shoulder of the road.

This is what the snake saw when I jammed on the brakes....

I tried to give it to my wife for Mother's Day...

But it didn't go over to good.

I thought it was cool anyway... and released it.

I may try flowers next year.
