On an unusually warm day this fall, I went on a hike along the Potomac River and found some salamander eggs under a log. I have some ideas of what they could be (marbled, red backed, slimy) but can't tell for sure. Can anyone help me out? Is there really any way to tell these eggs apart?
We also found a leopard frog & pileated woodpecker...and a man on a unicycle. Here's a photo of the eggs, and you can watch the video to see the rest of the highlights.

Actually, just heard from some people that the frog could be a pickerel, not a leopard. Any feedback?

Definately a pickerel frog and 90% sure they are red-backed salamander eggs.

I wonder if those are even salamander eggs. Maybe Kyle will ring in.
I would go with Pickerel also. Blotches on a Pickerel are usually more parallel and in a row. Leopards are usually more random.
The frog an the baby was great :)

Slugs.... I think there are too many eggs there to be a redback. You can also see slug development... at that size the salamanders would be developed inside... ya think?

I was thinking Slug also. We need to gather some egg shots an add to the ID guide.
