What a crazy night. Ambystomas are surly on the move. My 1st outing started at 7pm. I took my friend Ed and his daughter out (she is doing her senior project of conservation). Weather seemed really well to see the migrations. 1st stop was the sound of peepers calling in the distance. A great sign. Our main stop for the night was to check a pool I saw one spotted salamander in last year. We were not seeing much at 1st so we went to walk the roads and the madness began. Spotteds every few feet, also wood frogs. Great. We moved around 20 Spotteds off the roads. Checked the pools and found TMTC. Heading out a gem in the rough my 1st Jefferson Salamander. After checking a few other places and then driving back by we found a 2nd Jefferson crossing the road and a lone American Toad down the road a piece.
Excited to finally see a Jefferson I dialed my friend Bob and told him the news. He was stoked and said he would be here in an hour. Bob and his gf showed up at 10:15 and I went back out with them for a few hours. 2 more confirmed Jefferson's. TMTC Spotteds, TMTC Woods and a huge wood chorus.
We also checked another pool down the road that produced one Spotted.
