Hi all, new to the board. Recently I have been doing a lot of hiking & have always loved snakes. Have found garter, water, and brown snakes but I am ready for the head honchos. Copperheads & Rattlers. While looking through some of the forum I have come across posts where someone goes on a trip & finds more than a couple snakes, even as much as 29 snakes. Are these really one day outings or are they over a long period of time? I can't imagine findings that many snakes in one day.

Also, I know we should never give out specific spots, in order protect our scaly friends, but I was wondering if someone could PM me a good region atleast. I live in Berks county & I am thinking about checking out the "color of the sky" mountains near "bird of prey" Mountain in northern Berks. Is it worth it? PM if anyone knows. Thanks.

You can do well at that location. My snake counts usually cover 1 day but could be a 2 or 3 day weekend. The best 2 days was 115 snakes, the last time out was 72. Remember, most are fossorial species and where I find them, I can usually get 2,3 or 4 individuals representing different species under the same rock. Good luck. Keep the locations vague if you do find stuff. The species you mentioned can be found in the broad vicinity.

Thanks for your help! I found a western diamondback in Arizona but finding a rattler here would be surreal.

They are cool to see... but sensitive to harrassment. Take good photos! Just don't post any that would divulge location. Then, be sure to add the record to the paherp database.
Good luck... gonna be a nice weekend for hiking.
