Brother-in-law and his family came up to the kottage this weekend and being a science teacher, wanted to go herping with me.

Went out for a quick road cruise and found a couple of toad and green frogs.
    This guy forgot his eye-patch.

Headed out early the next day.

Being watched at the first stop.

This first flip of the morning had these two sharing some space.

This log has produced 3 different Timbers on seperate occassions.

Checking another timber spot, we walked up on this girl.

    One of my favorites...

    After photos it went vertical.

At the same time, this girl kept watch... couldn't get them in the same shot however.

The third timber of the morning was this girl... a repeat who was basking next a log about 100 yards from where found previously.

Sorry for the bad pics... she wasn't in the best position and we didn't want to detain her for sake of photos.

A garter or two were found along the way.

And some Northern Redbellied Snakes as well.

    And a Smooth Green.

After thunderstorms, the kids and I like to walk the road in front of our place in search of Eastern Newts.

Only we found a couple of Northern Red Salamanders instead.

This Northern Redbellied Snake was cruising down the middle of the road also.

Then this came out onto the road in front of my place... a first since owning here.

The kids were hustled to the other side of the road.

    Pretty cool.

    as was this arachnid.

    id?

    thanks

I love the TR's, but what has me freakin is that spider. How big was it? That thing looks like a funnel web or something!

It did look like a miniature funnel web Kevin. It was a little bigger than an adult jumping spider. That flat white thing I believe was it's egg sac. Several of those were seen but only the one adult.

    Kyle.

Just got don looking and I couldnt find anything that resembles that. You may want to sent pics to Pen State for id. I did that last summer with a black widow her at my home just because they were never seen around here and for documentation. Im terrified of spiders!!!!! A couple weeks ago Kelsey, Rich (team leader) and I were out assessing and i ran into one, I screamed like a girl and Rich says, "Guess Kevin seen a spider", Kelsey didnt even bat an eye. LOL

Couldn't get a good shot but this nest was full of babies, and it came equipped with a containment net.

I have seen plenty of widows... all in the coastal plain of NJ, MD and Del, never in PA.

Thanks for the spider id... it was cool and beefy.

All the timbers were found in different spots. The yellow phased one never rattled, we pretended to ignore it as to not cause too much stress. It retreated to her hole when we started photoing the rat snake.
