Is anyone getting out in the cold and finding anything?

Last rattler I saw was October 11th at a den in Clinton County...two were still out at the den crevice. The last herps I saw in general were while doing habitat assessments for proposed gas wells in Tioga county the week of November 15th.. Saw one garter, one red back, and about 8 red efts.

Havent gotten out in a bit, missed the last warm rain. But, I do get out in winter and will be looking for red salamanders in the coming weeks. Tried to look on Thanksgiving in Lycoming but found 2" of snow instead.

I was hoping for a bit more time myself also. Winter came a little fast, and I did not get out as much as I wanted to either.

Dec. 11th I spent a little time visiting a local spring house to check upon a population of Northern Red Salamanders.

Kids frequent this place and damage has occurred...

Despite this, the population remains. I found all of these within 1 square meter.

I saw larvae of different sizes.

And several adults of different ages.

Looks like you found the "spot" within the spot. Cool!

We havent been out for a while. When the Fall sets in our priorities change to other outdoor activities. Kelsey got a new camera for Christmas so she is itching to get out to try it on some sally close-ups. Tough weather to see any herps, but im sure if we found a nice spring we could flip something. Im starting to get the itch for the Spotted migrations then the TR's, but thats a long way off. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all!!
